Q - Susannah, what are you currently working on?

I am about to release my first book, a romantic suspense, reunion story titled NO REGRETS. It is a fun, sexy read with a twist of danger and lots of emotion. If you ever wonder about the one who got away, this is the book for you. It's about second chances, self sacrifice, healing from life's tragedies and finding the courage to love again.

As for my Series, I always have a lot of works in progress. I'm currently working on the last revisions to my first and second book of my Paranormal Dark Legends series, SEDUCTION MAGIC and SACRED BONDS. Those will be my next releases coming out in the next couple of months.

After that, I will be finishing up my first book in my Romantic Suspense series, The Black Dragon Elite, titled UNDERCOVER PLEASURES, where an archaeologist finds her match in a sexy, Irish hunk who is a very jaded, crime fighting operative who seems bent on creating havoc in her life. The Black Dragon Elite is a series about a secret International organization of crime fighting operatives and the women they meet and fall in love with on those dangerous missions. As always, my heroes are bad boys, Alpha males who have to contend with very independent, feisty women who aren't interested in being saved or protected. These books are fun, with edge on your seat suspense, and full of hot, sexual tension that will make your knees weak. Whew!

I will also be releasing the first book in two different Young Adult series this year. VIOLET HAZE, is book one of a Cyber Punk-Dystopian trilogy that has non stop action and of course, a bad boy who Aria, the heroine, can't quite figure out. Colt has too many dark secrets, some which will put the people Aria loves in deadly jeopardy. Set in a futuristic American controlled by corporate technology, VIOLET HAZE reveals a scary new world, where illusion and reality can be hard to distinguish.

My second YA series starts with AWAKEN ME, a book about angels, demons, voodoo, witches and the spirit world. Camille awakens from a years long coma to find her life turned upside down; all whom she loved are dead and her unyielding affection for the boy who saved her is forbidden. It is a book about how we choose to be who we are and the ramifications, good or bad, of those choices. AWAKEN ME takes place in New Orleans, a city of my heart and one that is so intriguing, my series was inspired by it.

Q - How does your work differ from others in its genre?

In my Dark Legends series, which includes supernatural creatures such as Vampires, Immortal Sorcerers, Lycans, Goblins, and many more, I have created a unique Underworld, with its own legends, history, hidden cities, and laws. Although it takes place in the modern world, the Supernatural creatures exist primarily in their own world, ruled by the three Mystics who each have dominion over different species. I don't follow much in terms of traditional mythology or rules. I have my own mythology I created from pieces of ancient history and my own imagination that I think is far more intricate and unique. I think my readers will find it a unique and fascinating world.

My Romantic Suspense series was born from reading about Secret Societies, which intrigued me. The Black Dragon Elite is an ancient secret society that has grown into a modern organization that fights organized crime. They are not affiliated with any particular country or political theology. They just want to fight the bad guys. But, being made up of humans, it is not a perfect system and some can be corrupted, as we will see through out the series. As you can see, history plays an important role in my books, albeit my own version of history. These books are sexy, suspenseful and have lots of sexual tension and wicked bantering between the heroine and the hero. However, there is no grit or explicit violence, since I don't care for that myself- especially when reading steamy scenes with hot, alpha males!

My Young Adult books are completely different from anything I have seen out there at the moment. My VIOLET HAZE series came from wondering the "what-ifs" regarding how technology and their makers are becoming such a domineering part of our culture, and how that could negatively affect a post, global-warming disaster world and the freedom of its citizens. This series is about love, sacrifice, and the willingness to fight for the freedom to be who you are, no matter the cost.

AWAKEN ME starts as a sort of retelling of the Sleeping Beauty tale, but morphs into something completely different. I created a world for that series, based on the mysterious history of New Orleans, where I once lived. I liked turning expectations around in AWAKEN ME, where labels of good and evil mean nothing and you never know who is good or bad, or something in between. It also has funny ghosts, a friend obsessed with animal print shoes and other fun moments to lighten the darker sides of the story.

My heroines, in all my books are kick-butt, independent women (or girls, in my YA series) who do not need or want to be saved. They will accept assistance, but balk at being bossed around. I really like them. I think readers will relate to them and find them refreshing and fun. Despite some dark themes, I use humor in my books to lighten up the darkness. You have to have those moments of laughter, no matter how dark things get!

Q - Why do you write the stories you do?

I write what I would like to read and eliminate what I don't enjoy. I don't like grit, so there is no grit in my books, but I love the thrill of suspense and use it abundantly in my stories. I write very emotional, sexy, sensual stories that are emotionally touching. I actually get teary sometimes, re-reading my books as I'm revising because some scenes are so touching. I love the Supernatural, I love stories that are not based in the real world, and I like true love and sexy alphas, so that is what I write. I have such an unlimited supply of stories in my head, I can't get the books written fast enough! I guess that's a good thing!

Q- How does your writing process work?

I'm afraid I don't have the organized, always on a certain schedule gene, unfortunately. Generally, I have an idea and take hand written notes in a notebook first. Once, I have a feel for the story, I will write out a brief summary, and some character sketches. Eventually, I will put together a sort of outline, more along the lines of a screenplay outline, with the major plot points, though those often change as I write the book. Somewhere in there, I have probably written the first chapter or two. But every book is different. With VIOLET HAZE, I wrote the book in two months with no outline at all. I had notes and character sketches but that's about it. It just flowed out of me. I wish I could say it happens with every book but it doesn't. Some books take more preparation and inspiration. When you are writing a series, you have to build that world from scratch and know exactly what the rules are that will continue throughout the series. It is also necessary to create interesting minor characters and scenarios that you can write about in the next book. You always have to think ahead when writing series. I usually will keep a notebook on future possibilities.

That being said, I consider myself primarily an organic writer. I take notes and do a brief outline (sometimes), but generally, I just get in front of the computer and write what I think works. Mostly, the story, characters, and conflicts exist in my head! Sometimes the story writes itself, (yay) and sometimes I have to rewrite it (once or 20 times!) but eventually, I find my story and my character's voices and then it is nothing but love until the end :)
